Unlike many similar organizations which are supported largely by corporate membership, the CMA’s voting membership is comprised only of individuals. From bunker brokers and tug-boat operators to lawyers and underwriters, to ship owners, brokers and managers, shippers and merchants of all kinds of cargo, each CMA member has an equal and separate vote.
The CMA was created to build a community of shipping people, and remains a conduit for the exchange of information and a source of camaraderie and fellowship that is unique and vital to the shipping community. In 2022, the CMA celebrates its 39th anniversary. It prospers with over 1,500 members representing nearly 500 companies and organizations.
The CMA Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, nonprofit organization dedicated to the maritime industry and its future leaders.
Mission: To foster future maritime professionals by promoting and supporting maritime-related education through financial assistance and program initiatives. Programs include Scholarships, Internship Stipends, Career Days, and the Business of Shipping Competition.

I hope you’re enjoying the warmer weather and longer days as we move deeper into spring.
Our Annual General Meeting on April 23rd in Darien was a resounding success — we had over 70 members joining us for lunch. It’s energizing to see that kind of turnout, and a reminder of how engaged this community remains.
I’m pleased to share the results of our elections. We welcomed Phil Hughes to the Board as Social Chair and officially elected Lily Holl of Weathernews Inc. as E-Media Chair. Per Barre of Maritime Partners was re-elected as Treasurer, and I am honored to continue serving as your President for another term. Thank you for your continued confidence and support.
May has been equally active. Our Annual Golf Outing on Monday the 11th was another fantastic day — great turnout, great company, and decent weather. Be sure to check out the photos on LinkedIn and in the June newsletter. And coming up on Tuesday, May 19th, the CMA Education Foundation’s Spring Splash in Greenwich is a not-to-miss event. A big thank you as always to Beth Wilson-Jordan and her team for continuing to bring our community together in such meaningful ways.
